That’s the way he was trying to remember his own little daughter. One day he went to jail for stabbing a villager. After returning from jail he figured out the fact that time flew by then and the little girl is not little anymore. He felt lost and depressed thinking that he will have the same experience with his own little daughter and it would be hard to connect with her following the same reason. 

It was a path-breaking short story in form of a letter (the letter itself constitutes the whole story) which a typical Bengali upper middle-class wife “Mrinal” writes to her husband.
