Khata” is a story of a girl who in those days got the opportunity of schooling while women’s education was not that very common. The little girl was enthusiastically writing everywhere that was not very much appreciated by his brother as she was messing up his writing notebook. Once she got married she was taunted and prevented from writing by her sister-in-law and her husband who had himself a strong passion for writing. At the end she was forced to stop writing. Her fate was bound to surrender herself to the hostile situation. 

A superstitious man believed that the only purpose of having wife is to ensure his future heir. 

He quit his pregnant wife as his maid made a big issue about her character while playing cards with her friends and relatives. 

The irony is that many years later when during famine his wife and only son came to him asking for food, he turned them down. But his whole life has been spent in marrying many ladies and pleasing the priests spending enormous amount of money for the sake of having his own kids as a future generation.

It was a path-breaking short story in form of a letter (the letter itself constitutes the whole story) which a typical Bengali upper middle-class wife “Mrinal” writes to her husband. She’s a poet, a thinker and over all a woman who dared to question, expressing bold and fervent statements with realizations coming from within the course of 15 years of her married life through letter to her husband.

The story shows how after giving a shelter to a distressed lady a distinguished man in that village was cornered and became the victim of politics which bound him to lose the legal case which led him to lose his property. 

The story shows how the groom side of the family used to take upperhand in every area during a marriage settlement. Sometimes it goes to such extent as exploitation and mental torture.

“Chitrokor” is a story of a solvent housewife, a mom whose life is dedicated in pursuing creative art as part of her hobby. She got her husband in support of her passion. But after her husband’s death the relative whose house she was sheltered, used to believe in materialism. And he used to preach her son that money making is the only way that’s meaningful in life. First the lady tried to live with her passion even exposing her hobby to her child hiding from the shelter giver. But when he came to know and resisted vehemently, she didn’t even hesitate to leave the house with her child for the sake of her passion on art.

How property can stand in the way of long time and strongly bonded relationship and vitiate the depth of it. 

कैदी ~ मानसरोवर भाग-4127 आइवन मास्को के सम्पन्न और सम्भ्रान्त कुल का दीपक था। उसने विद्यालय में ऊँची शिक्षा पायी थी, खेल में अभ्यस्त था, निर्भीक था। उदार और सह्रदय था। दिल आईने की भाँति निर्मल, शील का पुतला, दुर्बलों की रक्षा के लिए जान पर खेलनेवाला, जिसकी हिम्मत संकट के सामने नंगी तलवार हो जाती । उसके साथ हेलेन नाम की एक युवती पढ़ती थी, जिस पर विद्यालय के सारे युवक प्राण देते थे। वह जितनी रूपवती थी, उतनी ही तेज थी, बड़ी कल्पनाशील; पर अपने मनोभावों को ताले में बन्द रखनेवाली। आइवन में क्या देखकर वह उसकी ओर आकर्षित हो गयी, यह कहना कठिन है। दोनों में लेशमात्रा भी सामंजस्य न था। आइवन सैर और शराब का प्रेमी था, हेलेन कविता एवं संगीत और नृत्य पर जान देती थी। विपरीत स्वाभाव होने के कारण भी होने के बावजूद दोनों में प्रेम विवाह हुआ |लेकिन क्या ऐसी परिस्थितियां घटी कि आज आइवन एक कैदी के रूप में है, और आज जब जो जेल से छूटा है तो उसके मन में क्या उथल-पुथल थल मच रही है ?पूरी कहानी जानने के लिए सुनते हैं प्रेमचंद द्वारा लिखी गई कहानी कैदी , सुमन की आवाज में
