विवाह एक ऐसा बंधन है जिसमें बंधकर हर लड़की को अपने प्रियजनों से विदा लेनी पड़ती है। हेम भी इसी बंधन में बंध कर अपने पिता से दूर अपने ससुराल चली आई थी किंतु तब ये किसने जाना था कि यह विदा एक दिन अनंत कालीन विदा बन जाएगी।

यतीन की मुलाकात चुनिया से उसकी चचेरी बहन पटल के घर पर होती है। अपने मजाकिया स्वभाव के चलते पटल दोनों को खूब छेड़ती है जिससे तंग आकर यतीन तो अपने घर चला आता है पर चुनिया उसका जाना सहन नहीं कर पाती और घर छोड़ कर चली जाती है। काफी समय बाद वह यतीन को फिर मिलती है हमेशा के लिए चले जाने के लिए।

दो भाईयों की ऐसी कहानी जो अपनी पत्नियों के रोज़ रोज़ के झगड़े से आहत हैं। एक दिन खाना मांगने पर न मिलने से क्रुद्ध हो एक भाई अपनी पत्नी के सर पर प्रहार करता है जिससे कि उसकी मृत्यु हो जाती है लेकिन दूसरा भाई सबके सामने बताता है कि खून भाई ने नहीं बल्कि उसकी पत्नी ने किया है क्योंकि उसका मानना है कि पत्नी तो उसे और मिल जाएगी लेकिन भाई तो दूसरा नहीं मिल सकता।

Two neighbors were very competitive and jealous about each other. They were not content about what they had, thinking, must be others are having better than them. The story portrays the moral, how the jealousy takes away all the peace of mind and destroys the contentment and happiness of mind in general.

“Patro o Patri” is a story of a boy whose mom wanted to fix his marriage with a little girl before he goes to college. The marriage has been discarded by his father. But the process of negotiations revealed the fact that even 14 years old boy’s imagination of marital relationship was revolving around the same expectation, attention and control  towards his baby wife that he experienced in his father’s behavior pattern all through his life in spite of being a modern boy and raised independent.

It was a path-breaking short story in form of a letter (the letter itself constitutes the whole story) which a typical Bengali upper middle-class wife “Mrinal” writes to her husband. She’s a poet, a thinker and over all a woman who dared to question, expressing bold and fervent statements with realizations coming from within the course of 15 years of her married life through letter to her husband.

A superstitious man believed that the only purpose of having wife is to ensure his future heir. 

He quit his pregnant wife as his maid made a big issue about her character while playing cards with her friends and relatives. 

The irony is that many years later when during famine his wife and only son came to him asking for food, he turned them down. But his whole life has been spent in marrying many ladies and pleasing the priests spending enormous amount of money for the sake of having his own kids as a future generation.

“Chitrokor” is a story of a solvent housewife, a mom whose life is dedicated in pursuing creative art as part of her hobby. She got her husband in support of her passion. But after her husband’s death the relative whose house she was sheltered, used to believe in materialism. And he used to preach her son that money making is the only way that’s meaningful in life. First the lady tried to live with her passion even exposing her hobby to her child hiding from the shelter giver. But when he came to know and resisted vehemently, she didn’t even hesitate to leave the house with her child for the sake of her passion on art.
