दो भाईयों की ऐसी कहानी जो अपनी पत्नियों के रोज़ रोज़ के झगड़े से आहत हैं। एक दिन खाना मांगने पर न मिलने से क्रुद्ध हो एक भाई अपनी पत्नी के सर पर प्रहार करता है जिससे कि उसकी मृत्यु हो जाती है लेकिन दूसरा भाई सबके सामने बताता है कि खून भाई ने नहीं बल्कि उसकी पत्नी ने किया है क्योंकि उसका मानना है कि पत्नी तो उसे और मिल जाएगी लेकिन भाई तो दूसरा नहीं मिल सकता।

कहानी का मुख्य पात्र नरेंद्र एक चित्रकार है |उसे कम समय में ही प्रसिद्धि इसलिए प्राप्त हो गई क्योंकि वह जो भी चित्र बनाता था उसमें अपनी सारी योग्यता लगा देता था |नरेंद्र को चित्रकारी में ऐसी महत्वाकांक्षा थी कि वह ऐसा चित्र बनाना चाहता था जिसमें उसकी भावनाएं और विचारों का अद्भुत संगम नजर आए|नरेंद्र को इस संदर्भ में एक कला प्रदर्शनी में चित्र बनाने का मौका प्राप्त हुआ, उस कला प्रदर्शनी के लिए नरेंद्र कौन सा चित्र बनाएं अमर हो जाए ऐसी महत्वाकांक्षा उस की चरम सीमा पर थी |कहानी के अंत में आखिर नरेंद्र ने ऐसा चित्र बनाया, जिससे वह अमर तो हो गया किंतु उस चित्र को बनाने के लिए उसने अपने जीवन की क्या कीमत चुकाई ? यह कहानी का बेहद मार्मिक प्रसंग है |जिसे जान सकते हैं रविंद्र नाथ ठाकुर के द्वारा लिखी गई कहानी अंतिम प्यार में, शिवानी आनंद की आवाज में….

A kabuliwala, an merchant from Kabul used to sell the dry fruits in a village. He developed a fatherly relationship with a little girl and used to provide nuts and resins free of cost. That’s the way he was trying to remember his own little daughter. One day he went to jail for stabbing a villager. After returning from jail he figured out the fact that time flew by then and the little girl is not little anymore. He felt lost and depressed thinking that he will have the same experience with his own little daughter and it would be hard to connect with her following the same reason. 

 “Taraprasanner Kirti” is a story of the frustration and failure of an author after he has invested everything after it.

“Ginni” is a story of the frustration and a feeling of failure of a student as he is victimized by his teacher himself in the form of name calling. 

The story shows how after giving a shelter to a distressed lady a distinguished man in that village was cornered and became the victim of politics which bound him to lose the legal case which led him to lose his property. 

Khata” is a story of a girl who in those days got the opportunity of schooling while women’s education was not that very common. The little girl was enthusiastically writing everywhere that was not very much appreciated by his brother as she was messing up his writing notebook. Once she got married she was taunted and prevented from writing by her sister-in-law and her husband who had himself a strong passion for writing. At the end she was forced to stop writing. Her fate was bound to surrender herself to the hostile situation. 

It was a path-breaking short story in form of a letter (the letter itself constitutes the whole story) which a typical Bengali upper middle-class wife “Mrinal” writes to her husband. She’s a poet, a thinker and over all a woman who dared to question, expressing bold and fervent statements with realizations coming from within the course of 15 years of her married life through letter to her husband.
