यह कहानी जगन्नाथ नाम के एक बेहद कंजूस बूढ़े व्यक्ति की है जिसने थोड़ा सा धन बचाने के लिए अपनी बीवी और बहु का उचित इलाज नहीं करवाया, परिणाम स्वरूप उनकी मृत्यु के बाद उसका बेटा भी उसके पोते गोकुल को लेकर घर से पलायन कर जाता है। अपने कंजूस स्वभाव से ग्रस्त जगन्नाथ अपने पोते गोकुल की मृत्यु का कारण बनता है तथा पागल हो स्वयं भी प्राण त्याग देता है।

 “Poyla Nombor” is a story of an educated man who didn’t give any time recognizing wife’s wants and needs thinking her life is centered around his. And each time his guess about the concept of his wive’s thought process was proved wrong since he didn’t give a try and spend any time to understand her.

The story shows how after giving a shelter to a distressed lady a distinguished man in that village was cornered and became the victim of politics which bound him to lose the legal case which led him to lose his property. 

A kabuliwala, an merchant from Kabul used to sell the dry fruits in a village. He developed a fatherly relationship with a little girl and used to provide nuts and resins free of cost. That’s the way he was trying to remember his own little daughter. One day he went to jail for stabbing a villager. After returning from jail he figured out the fact that time flew by then and the little girl is not little anymore. He felt lost and depressed thinking that he will have the same experience with his own little daughter and it would be hard to connect with her following the same reason. 

It was a path-breaking short story in form of a letter (the letter itself constitutes the whole story) which a typical Bengali upper middle-class wife “Mrinal” writes to her husband. She’s a poet, a thinker and over all a woman who dared to question, expressing bold and fervent statements with realizations coming from within the course of 15 years of her married life through letter to her husband.

But the process of negotiations revealed the fact that even 14 years old boy’s imagination of marital relationship was revolving around the same expectation, attention and control  towards his baby wife that he experienced in his father’s behavior pattern all through his life in spite of being a modern boy and raised independent.

इंसान जब पैदा होता है तब यह आनंद की स्थिति होती है, लेकिन क्या जब इंसान मरता है तब भी क्या वह कुछ लोगों के लिए आनंद की स्थिति होती है? क्या जब इंसान मरता है तो क्या यह समाज़ अवसरवादिता में बदल जाता है ।कुछ ऐसे ही तर्ज़ पर है यह कहानी जीवन और मृत्यु और इसे लिखा है फ्रेंच लेखक guy de Maupassantने जो वास्तव में समाज़ के प्रति वास्तविक व्यंग है कि सदियों से मनुष्य समाज अपनी सहूलियत के चलते क्या किसी की मृत्यु का इंतजार भी कर सकता है? कहानी को जिस प्रकार बेहद चुटिले अंदाज़ में लिखा गया है वैसे ही नयनी दीक्षित ने उसी अंदाज़ में अपनी आवाज़ देकर कहानी को पेश किया है।

लखि बाबुल मोरे एक बेहद ही दिल को छू लेने वाली कहानी है. कैसे एक लड़की अपने दादी दादा के साथ रह कर अपना और अपने पिता के परिचय को ढूंढने की कोशिश करती है? अपने दादा दादी के मनोभावों को किस प्रकार समझने की कोशिश करते हुए उसमे दुनियादारी और समझदारी आती है? उसका चित्रण इस कहानी में बखूबी किया है
